The truth is, power will always corrupt, and no matter how many people you convert to peace using Gandhi's methods, there will always be people willing to inflict pain and suffering on those weaker. (Not too many protests on the streets). As a postscript - Gandhi in the end sold-out; "voluntary" fingerprinting was introduced which became de facto compulsory. Those who followed him never foregave him for the sacrifice he induced them to make.
